Footcan is a high tech computerised system and pressure plate which is used for assessing foot mechanics.
Often, if there are problems with your feet they will present themselves as referred symptoms in your back, knees, and hips.
A small dysfunction in the foot can have a large impact on joints higher up in the body. The average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day. That adds up to about 115,000 miles in a lifetime or more than four times around the world. That is a lot of walking with ill-fitting shoes or painful feet!

How does it work ?
Gait Analysis assesses the forces present, and weight distribution, in your feet whilst standing still, balancing or squatting and walking. As you walk across the pressure plate, thousands of sensors scan the surface of the foot.
The system simultaneously records and captures the relative pressure load of each area of the foot.
The results of your scan can be viewed in both 2D and 3D form, and assist us with your diagnosis and formulation of a tailored treatment plan.
If it is determined that you will benefit from orthotics, the data from your gait analysis is used to manufacture a bespoke 3D printed pair of orthotics. These comfortable insoles will reduce stress and strain on your body by realigning and stabilising the bones in your feet.

Orthotics are a type of insole that is placed inside footwear to provide support for the foot.
Orthotics are generally most effective when used as part of a “package” of treatments, which might also involve soft tissue manipulation, exercise, lifestyle changes and other interventions, depending on the individual.
At my clinic in Harpenden I supply Phits 3D printed orthotics which are designed to offer protection against excessive shock and impact. They are lightweight yet sturdy, comfortable and durable and can be modified to suit the individual. I also supply a small range of off-the-shelf orthotics if you are not yet ready to commit to a bespoke pair of orthotics.
Why are PHITS orthotics better than any others?
The Footcan system is a state of the art computerised foot scanning technology. Traditional methods for making orthotics rely on foam moulding of the foot or fitting templates which are then built up by hand in a lab. Footscan captures a moving image of the foot and is therefore incomparably more sensitive and accurate.
Insoles that you buy off the shelf are not custom made. You wouldn’t wear someone else’s glasses, so why would you put something under your feet that has not been designed specifically for you! Like glasses, Phits Insoles are custom 3D printed and made from a specific prescription, therefore offering the best possible support and relief from symptoms. They help reduce pain throughout the feet, legs, knees, hips and back and can dramatically help to improve and maintain a healthy posture.
Because Phits insoles are 3D printed, they can be printed in various directions and thicknesses depending on how much support or flexibility you need at different points of each foot.
Will the orthotics fit in my shoes ?
Yes! With the extensive range of orthotics available including orthotics for; running, football, skiing, golf, cycling, dress/fashion shoes, safety shoes and children, there is something for everyone.
There are occasions where your footwear may not be suited for orthotics, but we recommend that you bring along the shoes that you’d like your orthotics to fit into and we can discuss if we can make them work for you.
